GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF THESES, DISSERTATIONS, AND PROJECT REPORTS
Please note that each chapter will start in a fresh page. While chapter titles are to be typed in ALL CAPs, sub-titles will adopt initial capitalization. Subsequent subheadings will be presented with initial capitalization and bold. Below are chapters and their expected contents.
1.2 Background to the Study
In the background o the study, you are to present a concise overview of the organizational or social phenomenon under investigation with a clear description of how the criterion and predictor variables manifest in the organizational setting being studied. The perceived problem that necessitated the research must be silently highlighted as prelude to the statement of problem.
1.2 Statement of Problem
The candidate must clearly and precisely display the issue or problem that necessitated the study. Empty assumptions must be avoided in the statement of the reality gap (unsatisfactory situation necessitated the study in line with the conceptual framework. The candidate must clearly present the knowledge gap (literature gap) to be closed by his/her research effort. To achieve this, the researcher must cite sufficiently, previous related studies and show the gap in literature which these studies failed to close.
1.3 Conceptual Framework
This sub-section will contain a diagrammatic presentation of the dimensions of the predictor variable and measures of the dependent variable (including the moderating variable where applicable) as conceptualized or adopted by the researcher. The source(s) of the conceptual framework must be presented for authentification. The researcher may also provide a brief explanation of what the conceptual framework stands for.
1.4 Purpose of Study
The statement of the general purpose of the study should be followed by objectives in line with the conceptual framework. The candidate must not deviate from the conceptual framework for orderliness.
1.5 Research Questions
This subheading should start with an introductory statement. In consonance with the outlined objectives of the study in 1.4, corresponding research questions should be posed without departing from specifications in the conceptual framework. The objectives should be simply transformed to research questions. Direct questions suggesting “Yes” or “No” response should be avoided.
1.6 Research Hypotheses
This subheading should start with an introductory statement. In line with the research objectives and research questions, hypothetized relationships should be stated in the null form (Ho) by operationalizing the conceptual framework.
1.7 Significance of the Study
This subheading should start with an introductory statement. First, the candidate should state and explain the theoretical relevance of the study. Second, the candidate should show targeted practitioners that will benefit from the findings of the study.
1.8 Scope of the Study
This subheading should start with an introductory statement. This subheading should specify the areas covered by the study in terms of content scope, geographical scope, and unit of measurement.
The content scope should spell out the subject matter or topical issue under investigation without mentioning the place of study.
The geographical scope should spell out the firm, institutions, or geographical area where the study is domiciled.
The unit of measurement should specify whether the study examined the variables at the micro level (looking at employees) or macro level (organizational level).
1.9 Operational Definition of Terms
This subheading should also start with an introductory statement. All variables in the conceptual framework and other relevant variables or technical terms used in the work (whose usage defer from their conventional meaning) should be operationally defined to show their contextual meaning in relation to the work.
