  5. Finally, evaluate the robot and understand its hardware and software limitations.

What the Project Achieved
The final robot designed using the Lego Mindstorms 2.0 kit was capable of displaying artificial intelligence. It successfully navigated in an environment, detected and avoided obstacles, picked up an object and returned back to the starting point. The project successfully reported the various design issues that need to be considered while building robots. The report also stated how the performance of the robot is affected by the hardware and software used to build it and the environment it operates in. Finally, it was compared to other projects that were built to achieve similar goals.

Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
A robot is “a reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks”


1.2 Purpose
This project is concerned with building and programming a robot so that it displays artificial intelligence.


1.3 Aim
The robot will be designed and programmed so that it can evade certain obstacle(s) and pick up an object and return it to the starting point.


1.4 Minimum Requirements

  1. Write a report laying out the design options of the robot.
  2. Build a robot from the Lego Mindstorms 2.0 Kit.
  3. Program the robot to meet the aim of the project.
  4. Evaluate the success of the robot in a variety of configurations.
